The Teesta V stage
Hydro Power Project (510 MW), Sikkim costing Rs. 2,198.04 crore has been
sanctioned. The work is in progress.
Loktak Down Stream
Hydro Power Project (90 MW) in Manipur costing Rs. 578 crore has been sanctioned.
The cost of power generation based on latest cost estimate will be above
Rs. 6 per unit.
On Feb 10,2002,
eight road / bridge projects were sanctioned with an outlay of rs. 258.24
crore. Three more road projects costing Rs. 117.24 crore were subsequently
sanctioned. In 2000-01 Rs. 58.58 crore were spent. As against the provision
of Rs. 32.47 crore in Budget Estimates (BE) 2001-2002, Rs. 31.88 crore
were released. Outlay for 2002-03 is Rs. 70.50 crore.
The proposal to
extend the Modernisation of Police Force Scheme to Sikkim was approved
in 2000-01 with a grant of Rs. 67.42 crore released in the financial year
2000-01 to all North-East States. As against the outlay, Rs. 65 crore for
2001-02, expenditure till 31.03.2002 was Rs. 44.61 crore.
On 23.5.2000, the
Government had approved the fencing of remaining portion of Indo-Bangladesh
border and construction of roads at a cost of Rs. 1,335 crore. The work
on fencing and roads had been started with an amount of Rs. 87.50 crore
provided for the purpose in 2000-01. So far 147.31 kms of fencing work
has been completed on Assam-Bangladesh border besides the completion of
133.89 kms of border roads.
Assistance (Peace
Bonus) of Rs. 182.45 crore was sanctioned and given as grant to Mizoram
(as against Rs. 180 crore for Mizoram announced by the Prime Minister)
in 2000-01.
The Government has
approved the proposal to set up North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute
of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) at Shillong at a cost of Rs.
422.60 crore, on 7.2.2001. The work for establishment of the Institute
is in progress.
North Eastern Development
& Financial Corporation (NEDFC) has disbursed Rs. 50.46 crore in 2000-01
as against the target of Rs. 50 crore. During 2001-02, it had sanctioned
schemes worth Rs. 29.07 crore and disbursed Rs. 41.30 crore till Jan 21,2002.
Action Planes have
been prepared to develop four border towns (Moreh in Manipur, Zokhawther
in Mizoram, Dawki in Meghalaya and Sutarkhandi in Assam) in a period of
two years at a total cost of Rs. 36.32 crore. Response of State governments
however is slow in respect of land acquisition.
For upgradation
of 12 new National Highways / extensions of existing highways covering
a total length of 1962 km in North-East, Rs. 53.27 crore were spent by
March 31,2001. During 2001-02, a sum of Rs. 58.87 crore was sanctioned.
Upto May 31, 2002, the expenditure has been Rs. 4.88 crore against the
allocation of Rs. 26.80 crore in 2002-03. |
